Cranbrook: an 'eco-town' no more

From its earliest conception, the new town of Cranbrook was labelled an 'eco town':
Futures Forum: Cranbrook

The idea tied in nicely with the having-your-cake-and-eating-it notion of 'garden cities':

There has been so much spinning around Cranbrook, it is no wonder that everyone is dizzy:

The District Council has decided that it is 'downgrading the environmental standards' of Cranbrook - which is no surprise as in its 'devolution' bid, it has downgraded any mention of 'eco' anything:

EDDC QUIETLY DROPS THE “ECO TOWN” FROM CRANBROOK IN DRAFT LOCAL PLAN

17 DEC 2015

According to the front page of this month’s Cranbrook Herald, the lead story is that EDDC has dropped the words that it is built ton”eco-town standards” when describing Cranbrook in the draft Local Plan.

The town council agrees, saying that the phrase cannot apply when EDDC is “downgrading future environmental requirements for the town”.

It is apparently now being described as a “modern market town”.
