Crediton will be hosting its climate change event on Saturday:

Crediton Climate Challenge

 to

Market Square, Crediton GoogleMap

The biggest climate summit of the decade will be held in Paris from from 30th November to 11th December. The conference objective is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, from all the nations of the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and so limit the global temperature increase.

Around the world, in major cities, people will be coming together to demand that our governments take action to save our beautiful planet. Across the UK, people will be working together to make this the biggest, most poignant demonstration yet.

The Crediton Climate Challenge is an opportunity for us to be a part of this vital global event.
We are asking all of you to come forward and ...
  • Show the world what you are already doing to reduce your carbon footprint
  • Make a commitment to do more
  • Send a message to our government to forge a strong agreement at the Paris conference

Sustainable Crediton - Crediton Climate Challenge

A few more details here:

Please come to the Town Square on Saturday 28th November from 10am to 12 noon to take part in the Crediton Climate Challenge, or earlier from 8:30 am to help us set up the gazebos and stalls.

The event is in support of the Paris global climate change conference. As there will no longer be a climate rally in Paris itself, Sustainable Crediton want as many people as possible to come to ours with their own personal pledges for cutting greenhouse gas emissions written on our green heart pledge forms. The downloadable form is in last week's Courier, or there will be plenty available at the event.

Pledges could be about reducing energy consumption, or reducing waste, or driving less, or flying less, eating more local food to reduce food miles for example. Whilst pledges are being made there will be entertainment by Ian Beech, Crediton's performance poet, the Woodmen, a band comprised of Sustainable Crediton members and the Town Crier will be crying around the town and in the Square. Locally produced cider and apple juice will be available, and a free heart shaped cake will be given to people making pledges. There is also an exhibition about what local businesses, organisations and schools are doing to cut their carbon footprints. We will be making heart and star shaped Christmas decorations complete with pledges for our Christmas Tree at the Christmas Tree Festival from the 3rd to the 6th December in Crediton Parish Church.
