Health and wellbeing theme for event

on 7 October

Voluntary organisations and community groups, as well as Town and Parish Councils from across East Devon, are being invited to book their places on the district council's free annual “Working Together for the Future of East Devon” 2016 conference. It takes place on Friday 7 October from 9.30am to 2.30 pm at the Knowle in Sidmouth.

The event aims to bring local organisation together to improve communications between the voluntary and statutory sectors. Our voluntary organisations are vital for our residents and the quality of life in East Devon.

The theme for this year is ‘Health and Wellbeing’, with speakers talking on a variety of topics. In addition, there will be a session on hints and tips for completing funding applications, and Jenny Fish from Big Lottery Fund will be explaining how they can help with grants. Delegates will also have the opportunity to network and make valuable links with other East Devon groups.

People attending the conference are asked to bring an item of non-perishable food, such as packets of dried food or tinned goods, which will be collected by a local foodbank and later handed out to families in the area.

Councillor Jill ElsonEast Devon District Council’s Portfolio holder for Sustainable Homes and Communities, said:
“This annual conference is an ideal opportunity for local voluntary organisations to meet and share valuable experience and knowledge about the vital work they do.
Jill, herself a volunteer on several organisations, added:
Such conferences also help us, as a council, to learn more about the provision of volunteering in East Devon and how more people can receive help.
Places are limited to one per organisation/group and must be booked in advance. To find out more or book your place please e-mail jbuckley@eastdevon.gov.uk or call (01395) 517569 with your name and contact details and the name of the organisation you are representing before 28 September 2016.
