Council invites local community organisations to attend free health-themed conference to discuss issues affecting future of East Devon

Voluntary organisations and community groups, as well as Town and Parish Councils from across East Devon are being invited to attend the district council's free annual “Working Together for the Future of East Devon” 2015 conference, which is taking place on Friday 9 October from 9.30am to 2.30 pm at Knowle in Sidmouth.

The event aims to bring local agencies together to improve communications between the voluntary and statutory sectors.

The theme for this year is ‘Keeping Well’, with speakers on topics including dementia and mental health in children and young people. In addition, the national lottery funder Awards for All will be explaining how they can help. Delegates will also have the opportunity to network with each other and make valuable links with other East Devon groups.

People attending the conference are invited to bring with them items of non-perishable food, such as packets of dried food or tinned goods, which will be collected by local foodbanks and later handed out to needy families in the area.

Invitations for this free event have already been sent to Town and Parish Councils, as well as community and voluntary groups, which attended last year, but there are still places left. Places are limited to one per organisation/group and must be booked in advance.

To find out more or book your place please e-mail jbuckley@eastdevon.gov.uk or phone (01395) 517569 with your name and contact details and the name of the organisation you are representing before 28 September 2014.

Councillor Jill Elson, Portfolio holder for Sustainable Homes and Communities at East Devon District Council, said:

"I hope to see as many local community and voluntary groups as possible on the 9 October. I believe the voluntary and community organisations provide vital benefits to our local communities – I am a volunteer myself and enjoy meeting others. We want to listen to you and exchange information on matters that will affect our local people."
